Default allroad and Q7 wont be cross-shopped -- so how does that make sense?

Similar cars can be made to appeal to different market anyway -- by marketing and price. The A6 and the A8 are a lot closer to eachother than the allroad and Q7 -- they both exist in the same marketplace. so I aint buyin it

The a6 avant would be a viable option for a lot of folks here - IF it had a 6sp.

Default I'm selling my Touareg for an allroad. No way would I buy a Q7...

Since it's based on the Touareg platform, I can't imaging it's a drivers car like he states. The T-reg is a pig and it's lack of being a drivers car is why I'm switching to and AR.

It's a real shame!

Default Argh! I bought an allroad because I hate SUVs...

so don't tell me to take another look at the Q7. I think it's ugly and I don't care if it's a "driver's car". Good thing I plan to keep my ar until it completely dies.

First of all, when the allroad was introduced to the US market with a strategy that was determind by: Audi's approach for an SUV kind of car and it was sold that way to many first buyers in 01.
The reason for that was that Audi realized SUV's are a BIG seller in the US but they didn't have anything yet.
So while MB is selling the M-Class and BMW the X-class, Audi had missed the target.

But in order not to fall behind any further, Audi used the A6 platform and "chopped" it's first SUV - the allroad.

People will argue about this statement to call the allroad an SUV but every Audi Sales Manager I talked to in 2001 had the same story - it's an SUV! And I'm sure they didn't make it up ;-)

Having said that, I believe the former assesment is still pretty accurate, to me the Q7 is an allroad with a slightly raised roof and a third seat ;-)

But in the end, what difference does it really make since we wont get it anyways ;-)

Default I'd be a fan of an 'allroad' edition

Since most things are shared between the 2 just give us a special edition, add adjustable suspension, bulk it up a little, add some trim. It's a compromise but hey the 06 A6 avante is pretty sweet looking. Just a thought.

Default I'm just as disappointed as anyone here, but...

he is right. Last I saw any kind of sales numbers they aren't that great for the allroad, selling just barely over 4,000 allroads in 2004, and just over 2,000 allroads in 2005. It doesn't make good business sense to bring it over for a very small market.

Default true, not looking good for them either. In the little time the A3 was out in 05...

they sold more A3 than TT and allroad combined! Ouch.

Of course. The TT is an image/halo car.
